About Us

The “De Jong” Family

Meet the Farmers

Windmill Turf Farm is, as the name suggests, owned and operated by “Dutch Folks”. We immigrated to Canada in February 1999 with the hope of owning our own family farm. In April of that same year we purchased an existing sod farm (Ross’s Turf Farm) through public auction.

We did not have experience in sod farming, but were used to working on the land by growing potatoes, grain and sugar beets in The Netherlands. Wiling to learn, we extended that knowledge were able to meet and maintain the quality of the sod that the customers came to rely on over the years.

We feel blessed to live in this wonderful part of Canada, where we can combine our love for farming and being outdoors, with raising a family and serving our community.

Windmill Turf Farm is the only sod farm in Alberta’s Peace Country and we are located beside Last Lake, in the MD of Peace No. 135.
